India wants full implementation of 13th Amendment for meaningful development

India wants 13th Amendment full implementedThe Indian government asserted that it wants Sri Lanka to fully implement the provisions outlined in the Thirteenth Amendment with regards to power devolution. Economic Development Basil Rajapaksa met with India’s External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid yesterday, to discuss the Amendment. Khurshid expressed India’s appreciation of President Mahinda Rajapaksa’s announcement of the holding of the Northern Provincial Council (NPC) election. He “emphasised on the need to fully implement the provisions of 13th Amendment (13A) and to go beyond it so as to ensure meaningful development of Sri Lanka. He urged Rajapaksa not to do anything to dilute the provisions of the 13th Amendment.”

Rajapaksa informed Khurshid of Sri Lanka’s gratitude towards India for development projects being carried out in the country specially in the Northern Province.

Khurshid also emphasised on the need for all politicial parties in Sri Lanka to be included in the Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to discuss issues of the Amendment. He will be visiting Sri Lanka soon along with National Security Advisor Shiv Shankar Menon to discuss the political situation and national security issues.
