Pressure increases on Manmohan to skip CHOGM

Pressure is mounting on Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to miss the Commonwealth Heads of Government meeting scheduled to be held in November in Sri Lanka, Indian media reports say. The Indian Premier last week said that he has not yet decided on his participation at the meeting. He has been non-committal about his participaton at the high-level event, despite Sri Lanka’s External Affairs Minister Prof. G.L. Peiris flying to Delhi earlier this year to persuade Singh.

India’s Vice President Hamid Ansari and External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid will likely attend on Singh’s behalf, if Singh finally gives into the massive pressure exerted on him from India’s South.
