Sochi Winter Olympics

Russian opposition leaders have branded the Sochi Winter Olympics a “monstrous scam”, saying that up to £20bn has been stolen during preparations for the event.  Boris Nemstov and Leonid Martynyuk allege that a lack of fair competition has seen costs rise sharply, to the benefit of businessmen close to Russian premier Vladimir Putin.  Nemstov has suggested that he will call for a full investigation into the affair, and has also questioned the wisdom of holding the event in the sub-tropical capital of Sochi in the first place.
