Thisara Perara named in IPL match-fixing case

23 September 2013 AT 16:10 LK TIME.

Thisara Perara has been named in an IPL match-fixing case by a Mumbai based bookie who has been arrested for orchestrating the deal.  3 other Sunrisers Hyderabad players, Hanuma Vihari, Karan Sharma, and Ashish Reddy, have been named in connection with the fixed match, which took place in April this year.

The total cost for fixing the match was 6 crore Indian rupees, with 1 crore of that going to the bookie.  The alleged deal was that in the April 17th game against Pune Warriors, “the score should not cross 60 runs in 10 overs and 140 runs in 20 overs and Sunrisers should lose the match.”  The fixing worked for the first 10 overs, but the second part of the deal was not met, as Hyderabad won the match.

Sri Lanka Cricket issued this official statement today:

“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce that reference to a certain media report pertaining to a Sri Lanka Player being accused of Match fixing in the IPL 2013, Sri Lanka Cricket has not received any report from the authorities pertaining to the above.

SLC has full confidence in all its players and Sri Lanka Cricket has a zero tolerance on Anti Corruption and Anti Doping.”

Recently, 4 players, including S. Sreesanth, were convicted of spot-fixing in the IPL, and there was a similar high profile case in Bangladesh this summer, in which another Sri Lankan player was implicated.
